Community Service Chair
Job Description
The Club Youth Service Chair leads the club’s efforts to support, promote, and develop youth-focused programs, leadership opportunities, educational initiatives, and community involvement for young people. This position works to strengthen Rotary’s commitment to youth development through programs that encourage leadership, service, education, citizenship, and personal growth.
The Youth Service Chair works closely with schools, youth organizations, club leadership, district Rotary programs, and community partners to create meaningful opportunities for youth engagement and support.
Primary Responsibilities
Youth Program Leadership
- Coordinate and oversee the club’s youth service activities and programs.
- Promote Rotary youth programs including:
- Interact Clubs
- Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
- Youth Exchange
- Student scholarships and recognition programs
- Youth leadership and mentorship initiatives
- Encourage youth participation in community service and leadership development activities.
School & Community Partnerships
- Build and maintain positive relationships with local schools, educators, counselors, and youth organizations.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the club and school-based Rotary youth programs.
- Support student clubs and youth organizations sponsored by the club.
- Attend youth-related events, meetings, and recognition programs when appropriate.
Youth Development & Engagement
- Help identify opportunities for youth leadership, education, and community involvement.
- Encourage mentorship opportunities between Rotarians and youth participants.
- Promote programs that support character development, citizenship, and service above self.
- Assist in identifying deserving students for scholarships, awards, and recognition opportunities.
Event & Program Coordination
- Coordinate youth-related club activities, service projects, and special events.
- Organize student recognition programs, scholarship presentations, and youth leadership activities.
- Work with club committees to involve youth in service projects and community outreach efforts.
- Support transportation, logistics, permissions, and safety requirements for youth activities when applicable.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Rotary youth protection policies and district guidelines.
- Promote safe, positive, and respectful environments for all youth participants.
- Coordinate required volunteer clearances or youth protection training when necessary.
Communication & Promotion
- Work with the Communications and Public Image Committees to promote youth programs and achievements.
- Highlight youth accomplishments through newsletters, social media, club meetings, and community outreach.
- Encourage club member involvement in youth activities and mentorship opportunities.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Chair the Youth Service Committee and recruit volunteers to support youth initiatives.
- Collaborate with district youth program leaders and neighboring Rotary clubs when appropriate.
- Provide updates and recommendations regarding youth service activities to the Board of Directors.
