Communications Chair

Job Description

The Club Communications Chair is responsible for overseeing and promoting effective communication of the club’s business, activities, service projects, accomplishments, community involvement, and Rotary education to both club members and the public. This role helps strengthen fellowship within the club while increasing awareness, understanding, and support for Rotary throughout the community.

The Communications Chair also serves as the club’s Public Image lead, helping maintain a consistent, professional, and positive image of both the club and Rotary International.

Primary Responsibilities

Club Communications & Member Engagement

  • Maintain and promote effective communication between club leadership and membership.
  • Communicate club activities, service projects, accomplishments, events, and announcements to members and the public.
  • Help foster club fellowship, participation, and engagement through regular communications.
  • Provide educational information about Rotary, including Rotary’s history, mission, programs, and opportunities for involvement.
  • Share updates regarding Rotary International, District activities, and club operations with members.

Publications & Content Management

  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of the weekly club bulletin.
  • Coordinate and oversee the monthly publication of the club’s newsletter.
  • Ensure club stories, photos, and updates are regularly posted to the club website and social media platforms.

Public Image & Community Awareness

  • Develop and implement a yearly public image and communications plan.
  • Promote Rotary’s mission, values, and service projects to the community and local media.
  • Build awareness and understanding of Rotary through positive public relations efforts.
  • Secure publicity for club events, service projects, fundraisers, and community impact activities.
  • Use social media platforms to increase community engagement and visibility.
  • Enhance club projects and activities to make them more attractive for media coverage and public attention.
  • Utilize Rotary International’s Brand Center resources and “People of Action” campaign materials to strengthen club branding and messaging.
  • Ensure all club communications follow Rotary International branding, voice, and visual identity guidelines.

Website & Social Media Oversight

  • Manage and update the club website with current events, meeting information, stories, and announcements.
  • Oversee the club’s social media presence, including regular posting and engagement.
  • Coordinate photography and content collection for club events and activities.
  • Ensure online content reflects a professional and welcoming image of the club.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Club President, Board of Directors, committee chairs, and event coordinators.
  • Support communication needs for club projects, fundraisers, membership drives, and special events.
  • Attend Board meetings and district public image seminars as requested.
  • Coordinate with district and Rotary International communications initiatives when appropriate.

Goal of the Position

To strengthen communication, fellowship, public awareness, and community engagement by effectively promoting the activities, accomplishments, and mission of the Rotary International and the Niles Rotary Club of Fremont.
