date:July 1, 2021 Building blocks: For 2021-2022 we are again planning to do a minimum of one Community Service project per month. While we plan to continue existing Niles Club Community Service projects such as Pizza with Santa and Feed the Hungry, we are also planning to add a few larger projects. To maximize our impact and leverage resources (and budgets) we plan to do several projects in coordination with local nonprofits. The Environment: In line with Rotary’s newest Area of Focus and our own Niles Rotary Environmental Committee, we are planning a number of joint projects throughout the year. One such project is the expansion of LEAF’s Urban Garden to almost a full acre. This expansion will help LEAF (Local Ecology and Agriculture Fremont) provide even more than the 5,000 pounds of fresh vegetables they currently provide Tri City Volunteers as they serve food to those in need. Area-wide impact: In addition to networking with local nonprofits such as LEAF, we are also looking to do several large area-wide Rotary service projects. A free (Annual?) Fourth of July concert is already being discussed for 2022. The concert would be produced (and funded) by Fremont Symphony, with area Rotary clubs led by Niles assisting with logistics and crowd control. Think BIG: Another project under consideration is the new special events center and community pavilion at the California Nursery Historical Park. The new (Rotary?) Center will be used for events, classes, and indoor/outdoor activities and provides Niles Rotary with a potential signature project with area wide impact. CS needs you! If you are interested in serving on our Community Service committee, or if you have an idea for a community service project you’d like to see us support, please contact Paul Iannaccone, 2021-2022 Club Community Service chair. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
